JD Buss

President

JD Buss is an experienced and thoughtful leader who has served as President of Twin Feathers since 2021. He has worked for the company since 2009, building lasting relationships with our clients and helping them uncover smart strategies for supporting their energy businesses. In his current role as President, JD continues to foster strong relationships and now guides our team in identifying market direction and actionable steps. JD is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA*) and a Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA). These licenses are an asset to our clients, who benefit from JD’s ability to evaluate the many sides of commodity advising and their impact on small and large businesses.

Before joining Twin Feathers, JD worked for Koch Industries, supporting a crude oil derivatives group in the late 1990s. He then worked in natural gas risk management, physical natural gas trading, and structured products for broadband at Enron. He has also been a small business owner, running a family-owned service company. JD is passionate about truly listening to our clients to provide creative and effective solutions that help their businesses thrive. When he’s not busy working, JD enjoys spending time with his wife and five sons, playing games, going to the movies and traveling.

Tina Schmitt

Tina Schmitt

Senior Commodity Advisor

Tina Schmitt joined the Twin Feathers team in 2016, bringing vast industry insight and prodigious experience to her position as a Senior Commodity Advisor. She plays a critical role in supporting our clients’ physical supply options and financial hedging decisions. She earned her Series 3 certification and is a proud graduate of Kansas State University. Tina began her career in the commodity markets in 2003 while working for Inergy Services. In that role she developed a strong knowledge of the propane markets as she assisted retail propane dealers with supply and risk management products.

Through her multiple roles at the company, she became an expert on propane supply and logistics in the central United States. In 2014, Tina joined Cargill, expanding her commodity experiences to include the agricultural sector. Tina loves making our clients’ lives easier and businesses more profitable. Whether she’s addressing inventory shortages, over-supply or product pricing related issues, she can tackle various issues so that our clients can focus on running their day-to-day operations. Tina enjoys working closely with our team to educate clients and identify smarter ways to buy product and manage risks. In her free time, she enjoys being with her husband and two daughters, attending Kansas State football games or cooking!

Matt Adams

Matt Adams

Senior Commodity Advisor

Matt Adams brings significant professional experience to his role as a Senior Commodity Advisor at Twin Feathers. His primary responsibilities include procuring supply across the Great Lakes region, mitigating risk and helping our clients plan for the unexpected. While he’s been with the company since 2014, he’s worked in the propane and refined products industry since 2007. Matt began his energy career with FerrellGas, managing the bulk distribution of propane across the Mid-Atlantic and Southwest regions.

He then built upon that operational experience to become a logistics team manager at CarterEnergy, where he maximized efficiency for a 30-truck fleet with 70 drivers across midwest markets. Before joining Twin Feathers, he worked for INTL FC Stone to help retailers and wholesalers develop and implement hedging programs for their pipeline shipments, bulk plant inventory, retail margin protection, and fixed forward contracts for their end-users. Matt studied Accounting at the University of Kansas and holds his Series 3 license. He enjoys his work because each day provides a different set of challenges where he can help his clients alleviate stress and find the freedom to focus on other aspects of their businesses. In his free time, Matt enjoys spending time with his family.

Gabriel Amundarain

Commodity Advisor

Gabriel Amundarain joined the Twin Feathers team in 2023, bringing decades of international experience in the oil and energy industries. A skilled chemical engineer with an MBA, Gabriel offers a unique blend of technical expertise and strategic management skills. As a Commodity Advisor, Gabriel leverages his diverse experience in energy markets to support our clients’ success.

Before joining our team, Gabriel started his career as a chemical corrosion specialist in Venezuela. He later moved to Peru to work with chemical solutions in oil production, where he learned all aspects of the process, including water and wastewater treatment, gas, oil and soil management. Gabriel then served in consulting roles, advising and supporting energy companies on complex global issues, such as boundary disputes for offshore oil fields.

In 2010, Gabriel transitioned to the industrial coatings sector in Panama. Over time, he worked his way up to become the regional manager, leading operations across Central America. After the pandemic, Gabriel relocated his family to the United States and decided to settle in Kansas. Outside of work, he enjoys trying new Kansas City barbecue spots, learning to fish, and, most importantly, spending quality time with his wife and children.
